Well, in my opinion it's like this. A rich guy is less likely to get a girl because the girls that are available are going to go for the poor guy.

But she would go with the poor guy and then leave him when he had enough money.
And so on and so on.

Or even worse. She will go to the poor guy because she is lonely and has nothing else to do.
Then she will find the rich guy and leave the poor guy. Then when the rich guy gets bored of her, she goes back to the poor guy.
Then the cycle repeats itself again and again until the poor guy gets tired of her and leaves.
