Put it on the tick
Hold it there for a few seconds, then let go.
The tick will die and fall off.

I'm sure this is legit because my dad said so (he works with animals and stuff).
If you are scared of lighting a lighter, I'd recommend taking a piece of paper, rolling it up into a small ball, put that inside of a toilet paper roll, and then use that. It won't light, but it will suffocate them and they will eventually die.
I've done it before. It works!
