1. Get to the basement of your house or school.
2. If you don't have a basement, get to a windowless room on the lowest floor, such as a closet or interior room away from windows.
3. Stay away from walls and windows on higher floors.
4. Put pillows over your head and curl up into a ball to protect yourself from flying debris.
5. Use blankets or mattresses to shut out light and to muffle sound, but keep a flashlight handy in case you need to move around or see something.
6. Do not open doors because extreme pressure changes could cause them to explode.
7. If possible, get under something strong like a car or table.
8. Stay away from exterior walls and doors.
9. Wear sturdy shoes and use as many layers of clothing as possible for protection against flying debris.
10. Protect your eyes and ears.
11. In a car, get out and sit in a ditch or lie in a low spot
