I would assume that Charizard would be popular in areas where there's a lot of people who like anime, because most people think Charizard is a reference to a Dragon Ball Z character. But in actual Pokemon games, Charizard has been relatively weak and unpopular for quite some time, especially since the days of Diamond and Pearl.

I mean, Charizard still has its moments, but I meant overall. It hasn't been as good as it once was in terms of usage by trainers.
