1. Title - Make the title of your thread sound appealing, but don't lie. If you're gonna say "The REAL secret to..." and then just be like "Hah I lied", that's not going to work. Just make your thread sound appealing in the title.
2. Description - Make a description of what your thread is about. If it's a question, just ask it. It doesn't have to be long at all.
3. Posting - This is where most people go wrong. They put a bunch of random stuff that doesn't go with their topic at all. You can talk about other things after you've posted, but keep it related to your main topic.
If you follow these steps, you will be able to post a good thread. You will also get good responses.
