I went to the bathroom and came out. I went in my room and saw that there was a key on my door. I saw it and knew it was for when they would go away. So they had gone away again but for a week or so. I saw my dad's suitcase. And then I heard footsteps going towards the door. I ran outside and ran as far as I could go.

I said "Where are you going?" He didn't answer me. And I didn't look back to see if he was following me or not.

When I reached home again, I saw my mom's suitcase and bag. I grabbed them both and ran inside the house. I left the bag in the living room and dragged the suitcase up the stairs. I was shaking. Then I heard something.

"Where did you go?" I didn't respond. I ran into my room with the suitcase and slammed the door. It sounded like someone was running in their footsteps. I checked the lock and clicked it. Then I sat on my bed and hugged the suitcase. I was shivering. I was so afraid that they would come back.

I was in shock. I couldn't believe this has happened. It's been happening for a while now. I wondered why they have gone away everytime I find out. I started to cry.

I got off the bed. I crawled under it. I hid there until morning. The next day I ate cereal. I went outside to play with my friends but they were gone, too. I called my mom's cell phone and she answered.
"Mom? Where are you? Why did you go? What am I going to do? You have to tell me! Please tell me!" I pleaded.
"I'm sorry dear, I can't tell you anything. Goodbye." She said and hung up.

I put my phone down. I had to get used to this. I ran into my room and saw that my suitcase was still there. I grabbed it and carried it upstairs. I locked myself in the bathroom again. I took everything out and searched through them. I found an envelope. I ripped it open. There was a letter inside.

Dear Daughter,
I'm sorry about what has happened. But you know why we have been leaving for a while now. We left because your father has abused us. He has hit us and yelled at us. We're so sorry about not being able to tell you this before. We're just scared to tell you. We are thinking of leaving him for good but he might find out we told you. We will try our best to get away from him and come back here to see you. Please keep your phone on you at all times. We love you!

I was shocked again. I folded the letter up and stuffed it back inside the envelope. Then I put everything back together and locked everything. I went downstairs and walked into the living room. Then I heard something.

"Are you ok, honey?" Someone said. I turned around and saw my neighbor, Mrs. Green, standing there. She had her hands on her hips and looked worried.
"Yes, I'm fine, ma'am. Thanks for asking." I replied.

She smiled and patted me on the head. "Ok then, honey. Have a great day!" She said and left the house. I went back inside my house and checked the door locks. They were still locked. I ran upstairs and checked the windows. They were closed. Then I went outside and checked the doors. They were open.

I looked to the side to see if anyone was standing there but no one was. I walked back in and checked the kitchen and dining room and found nothing wrong or out-of-place. So I started to clean up the house. I worked on it until lunch time.

I opened a can of tuna and heated it up in the microwave. I sat down and ate it while watching TV. It felt so good to have something warm and yummy to eat after having a bad morning. I finished eating and saw that I had eaten the whole can without even noticing. I cleaned my plate and threw it away. I looked at the clock on the wall and saw that it was time to.

It was 4 o'clock already. I grabbed my school bag and headed out of the house. I said goodbye to Mrs. Green again. She waved at me and smiled. Then I went over to my friend, Jane's house. She opened the door for me.
"Hi!" Jane said.
"Hey, Jane. What are you doing?" I asked her.
"I'm making some cookies. Would you like one?" She replied.
"No thanks, Jane. I already ate." I answered back.
"Oh okay, well if you change your mind come back here." Jane said.
"Ok." I replied.

Then we went outside into her backyard. We played all kinds of games together until it got dark. I yawned and rubbed my eyes.
"I think I have to go home now, Jane." I said.
"Oh ok. Bye." Jane answered.
I went back home with a smile on my face. I opened the front door and checked the living room again. It seemed fine again so I walked upstairs and saw that everything was still in place. I turned on the TV and sat down to watch a movie.

The next morning I woke up and heard something downstairs. I heard someone walking around. Then I heard them opening the fridge. They were talking about something. I put my ear closer to the floor. I heard someone's voice. It sounded like my dad's voice.

He asked if there was anything for him to eat. My mom said that they didn't have much to offer. He said that he didn't want any of their food anyway. Then they talked about me. I couldn't hear what they were saying but I knew they were talking about me.
