My teacher said that he didn't think I could get anything less than an A, and when I explained the situation (I was sick for half of it) he said it didn't matter because I still have plenty of time to bring my grade up. He also said it was OK because "everyone makes mistakes". Well, if that's true, then why does everyone say that perfection is unachievable?

Because people like to put other people down.

Because they want you to feel bad so they can feel better about themselves.

So basically, there is no such thing as perfection because the whole point of life is to make other people feel inferior?

The only thing you will ever be perfect at is being you. Everything else will not be perfect.

I guess I should just go on with my life then and assume that it's OK to get a D on something important because everyone has bad days once in a while. Oh well, I'll just hope he doesn't tell this story to anyone who asks how he's doing.

Probably nothing. He wouldn't care enough to look through my post history, and if he did, he probably wouldn't think twice about it, so I'm safe there.

Or maybe he will and will have an even worse opinion of you. This is why it's best to keep your mistakes to yourself.

@rach: It's not like I'm going to make a habit out of this, and I can assure you that I'm going to fix the situation before I ask him for help again. Plus, I already got an A on another test, so he knows that I can do good work when I feel like it. If he were to find out that I posted this thread, he'd just laugh because he knows me well enough to know that I don't screw around much.

Well, as long as you're confident in yourself then it will all be ok.
