I mean, they're all just obsessed with memes and stuff. It's so funny! They never post about anything relevant, it's always just jokes and memes! I don't get it! Why are they like that?

They're kids.
What do you want them to post about? How their day went?

Yeah but come on. Do they really need to be talking about memes all the time? It's just not serious.

Because there are so many things going on in the world that it makes sense to talk about memes instead

Well, if we have to talk about memes, shouldn't we at least talk about the ones that actually have a point? Like, you know, ones that make a statement or something?

I think that's what people should be doing, but sometimes, well, the joke is the best thing about it.

But then I still don't get it. If all the jokes are bad, why are they still funny?

I'm not sure, honestly. Maybe the humor comes more from the fact that a lot of them are so stupid and terrible that they're just funny because they're so dumb?

The only one I can remember offhand which was really clever in its execution was "doge" (the doge meme). It was a perfect example of how to use a meme to your advantage.

Oh yeah I do remember that one! But wasn't it more of a trend than a meme? Like everyone started making shirts with dogs on them and stuff?

Well, yes, but it was still technically a meme, if you look at what the term actually means. A meme is literally just an idea or a concept that's spread and popularized via social interaction.
So while it might have been more of a fad or trend, it still definitely counts as a meme. And the original source of the meme, the image of the shiba inu, has gone on to have quite a few spinoffs, so there is some level of evolution involved.

Okay cool. So basically it's kind of like when something happens in pop culture that becomes really popular and people start talking about it a lot because they're excited, but then eventually it dies down and moves on.

Exactly. The process can be pretty short-lived sometimes, especially with memes, but it does happen.

Yeah I guess it depends on how well known it already was before it became popular. Like doge was a popular thing online before it got big on ROBLOX, and I think that made a difference.
