I want to make sure it will run a game called "Battlefield 3", because my current one can't run it. It's like an old Windows 98, running on a Pentium III Processor, with 512 MB of RAM, and 40 GB HDD.

Alright guys, I need your help to build my first ever PC.
My friend is letting me use his room to store this computer, and I'm getting money for my 18th birthday soon.
I have $400 saved up and would like to build a PC with good specs for only around $200-$300.
So far I am considering a AMD Athlon XP 2800+, 128 DDR1 SDRAM (PC2100), and an AMD Radeon HD 6450 graphics card.
Should I get an Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.7GHz processor or should I stay with the Athlon?
Is it ok if I go with the DDR1 RAM? Does it make a difference?

@FastLane
I can't run any game other than Roblox and Battlefield 1942 without crashing. And I think DDR1 is the lowest you can go with Windows XP.

Ok so I need a $200-$300 PC that will be able to run BF3 smoothly, and also run games like Skyrim and GTA IV without crashing.
Any suggestions?

the best way to make a computer cheaper is to build it yourself
and not get a processor that's 10 years old

My video card is the latest one, and it was working perfectly fine until we moved... It was working a few weeks ago, now it's dead.

If you turn it off, it still runs in the background.
And if I try to turn it on it says "GPU initialization failed" or something similar.
