Pokémon was made in Japan by a Japanese person, it's almost like an extension of their culture.
This is my opinion.
Also, they have more of a connection to their roots than the West does. The West isn't as traditional.

I'd argue that this is pretty much true of most cultural things. If you look at American pop-culture, everything comes from America. Even the music genres that originated outside of the US were eventually adapted and reworked into American versions.

@Kawaii
That doesn't explain the Japanese love for other non-Japanese franchises though...

It's not like Americans are obsessed with The Legend of Zelda. I think the only reason why people care about Pokémon in America is because the franchise is popular among kids.

But then again, Mario is also a series of games that comes from Japan.

mario isn't as popular as pokemon so they'll probably forget about that one

But it's just as much of a Japanese phenomenon as Pokémon, if not more...

@blue
What kind of manga are you talking about?
There is that one about how Peach was kidnapped and Daisy saved her from the Koopas.

@Xx
I just looked through some images for them. I found a couple manga based off the Mario franchise, but I can't remember any specific titles. The covers seem familiar though...
