I have to write a research paper about the time period of my choice. I am doing the 1950's because that is the time period I'm most interested in.
However, I can't think of a topic for my essay. It needs to be 3-4 pages long and it has to include quotes and sources. So far, I've thought of things like, "What were the major inventions of the 50s?" but I feel that this would be too hard to expand upon. Does anyone have any ideas?

Well, I don't really want to go into depth about what the atom bomb is. It's not even an invention, it's just a scientific discovery.

Why are you writing this paper then? If you're just supposed to write a thing on the 1950's, then why would you restrict yourself to one invention?

This is supposed to be a research paper where I focus on a topic and write a report on it. The whole thing is supposed to be about how people in the 50's lived their day to day lives, so my topic has to relate to that.

Why not talk about the Cold War, which was a major factor of American life during the 50's? Or the economy? Or social issues like race and women's rights? So many topics, so little time. You could really take any aspect of the decade and turn it into an interesting essay.

I can't do the Cold War because that would be more like a history class paper rather than an English class paper. I can't talk about the economy either. It wouldn't make sense for me to talk about the economy in the 50s and then give examples with today's currency.
So what are some good topics?
