he's doing this weird thing where he asks a lot of questions about why i'm an atheist and then tries to give me arguments that are supposed to make me question my atheism, but they're really bad so i just tell him to stop trying to convert me and he stops, but then he keeps trying the next day
like wtf

You can't force someone to believe or not believe something.
You can just show them the facts and let them decide for themselves.

i just talked with him again and this time he was more interested in hearing my side of things instead of just trying to convert me
which is fine because i actually want to talk to him about atheism but it gets pretty awkward when he asks me questions that are basically trying to make me question my atheism

you can't just show them facts, there has to be a discussion and they have to learn things along the way, but it shouldn't be forced on them

Well, the first thing you need to do is show him the flaws in his arguments. I wouldn't recommend trying to persuade him right away.

i already did that once and he got pretty frustrated with me after i showed him the flaws in his arguments
and now i'm just going to discuss atheism with him in an open minded manner without trying to force my point of view on him
i mean it's not like i actually have to convince him anyway because i'm just explaining stuff to him and showing him that we're not as bad as he thinks we are
