I had no idea what they were saying and I didn't want them to see my face because it was all weird.
The note said, "Are you feeling okay?" and I put a little smiley face next to it.
Then she gave the person another one and that one said, "Okay? Are you feeling okay? If you are feeling okay then give this to your teacher so she can send it to me!"
I think I made the girl sad. She got the second one and she left without saying anything. Then everyone said she was crying. I was like, "Crying over a stupid note..."

Because I didn't know what she was saying.
You can't just explain that.
She was probably saying "I have a crush on you" or something.
And I would've been like "Um...I'm fine." and she would've laughed and left.

Nope.
I didn't get punished.
It was my first day of school after all.
I just didn't know what she was talking about and I really wanted her to stop so I made a weird expression and it turned out she was feeling sad.

Well, then yeah...that's something else entirely.
Just saying 'um' isn't good enough, because even if the situation was different, she doesn't have that much time to explain things fully...you should've just told her you weren't able to hear properly or whatever...
