im not sure, im assuming because they suck at it and have no friends and instead of trying to make them better they think its funny to call people who like a game they are bad at "nerd"
and you say that people play games for their lives but its not true everyone plays games for different reasons some people play for fun, some play to escape their lives, and some play to find friends. I've played many games over the years and some i liked more than others but i never called anyone who liked any game i didn't a nerd.
