It's a giant screen playing back what appears to be space. We don't even have any evidence that we live in the universe, since there isn't even enough power in the sun for us to see anything.

The sky is a giant screen showing back what we think is space. It was created by aliens in order to make us believe that we are living in space instead of inside a spaceship with a roof made out of glass.
