the olympics are just an excuse to get together and watch random events and then act like we know something about them when we don't
i'll never understand why people take sports so seriously

Well, in my opinion, it's a fun way to watch people do things you could never do. It also teaches you the importance of sportsmanship. I like to think I'd be pretty good at archery, gymnastics and swimming.

it's just one big party with a bunch of overpaid athletes and tv networks getting all the money for hosting and advertising

Well, the Olympics are a great way to promote peace between countries and encourage sports. And how is it overpaid? These guys train their butts off for years just to get this chance.

if they were really about "peace" then we wouldn't be seeing constant war in russia
and most of the events aren't even challenging anymore, it's just a competition to see who has the biggest muscles

i mean yeah if it were only between the olympic participants it would be kind of pointless because none of them were going to start a war over a medal or something lol

Also, don't forget that the Olympics are more than just sports, either. There's a lot of other events, like the Parade of Nations and the opening/closing ceremonies.

those events are pointless too imo, although i do like watching people perform at those ceremonies
the parade of nations is basically just a bunch of people waving their flags around like "oh look we have a flag, who cares?"
it's the same with the closing ceremony, nothing really happens except the host nation gives a speech and then everyone leaves
i mean sure it's nice to see how different cultures can come together and make stuff but there's no real point in having such an event

i also noticed that the only times when all the participating countries show up at once is for the parade of nations, and the medal ceremonies
which makes me wonder what the point was if they were only going to hand out medals to people who won
i guess it was so the spectators could cheer on their countrymen
but still, it's kind of ridiculous that every single person has to be on stage whenever their country wins even if it isn't necessarily relevant to the actual event

they can do a medal ceremony with like the top 10 winners or something and then the other people just get a bunch of medals in a box or something
that way nobody would feel left out

I think the parade of nations is more of a celebration of unity between all countries and peoples. I mean, think about it; imagine what this world would be like if no countries ever met anyone from another country before? They would think they were so different and probably go to war.

it's not as though those people were never able to meet people from different cultures before
they can do that every day by simply walking down the street or going to school
so i don't really see how this event makes any difference
