I don't get it. It's an insulting term, and yet people throw it around like it's a compliment.

I've never seen anyone use "savage" as a compliment.
But if you can find an example where it is used as such, I would be happy to hear about it, because I'd like to see who the hell that is.

I really don't see how anyone would ever think using savage as a compliment would be a good idea.
I've never seen anyone use it in a positive way. It's always been used as an insult against someone.

I've heard people use "savage" as a term for someone who is really awesome or something like that. Not very commonly though.
