personally I think the worst way to get a game is to buy it on impulse
I usually like to wait till I've heard a lot of good things about it before I buy it

and then it's a good idea to check if you can find a used copy on ebay for like $10 less or something
that way you're not spending the full price on a game that you may end up regretting
