i cant believe i actually found the time to do this
my time is precious and it is not to be wasted
and yet, here i am wasting a bit of my precious time
for what? you ask
well, let me tell you
i have been doing some research lately as part of my studies on religion (specifically christianity) and how it relates to social class structures in american society. i want to write an essay on this topic, so i have been spending a lot of time watching a number of youtube videos about various topics regarding religion. i just watched one where a pastor was talking about some guy who was trying to sell him a "snake oil" cure for cancer and how this guy made the guy give him $2,000 after he had paid him $100. anyway, the pastor then went onto explain that even though this guy did not have the money to pay back all of his debts, he still got $3000 worth of free stuff out of this guy, but still kept paying his other bills as well. he compared this situation to the idea of grace, where the pastor claimed that God gives us free forgiveness.
my point is that this guy seems kind of like a cheapskate who should be taken more seriously when it comes to charity work. he gives out things for free, but only to those whom he feels are worthy of receiving the free stuff that he gives them. for example, he gives his friend $1,000 to help pay off his debt while at the same time giving the snake oil guy $3,000.
i know i'm probably making this more complicated than it needs to be, but this just bugs me. i want to know why it's okay to take advantage of the poor, but not okay to take advantage of the rich.
