It's a gong, it's old as hell, and it makes my school sound like some kind of prison.

Someone is supposed to ring it, but they don't do that because then they'll get scolded by our principal, so instead they just hit the bottom of it and then let go. That causes a vibrating noise which is the gong.

my school has a weird clock
it's so big that when i had band practice in the auditorium one time we were practicing the school song and there was like some sort of chime thing going off that sounded like a school bell
it was so loud we could hear the chime even in the other building where band was practicing
we thought something was wrong since we were supposed to be practicing in silence
