Also, I'm not even sure why this was posted in OT.

That is actually pretty logical.
If your parents left, you can probably assume they won't be back anytime soon. If they are coming back, they'll probably come with someone who can give you money.
So why not just go and ask them for a couple of bucks?

You did say "if" but that doesn't make any sense.
Because it's impossible for your parents to leave you and not return.
So it makes no sense to make a hypothetical question about something that literally can't happen.
