I've been trying to think of ways to get back into the "scene", and I think I have an idea. This will be a long post, so sit back and relax.
What do I mean by the "scene"?
The "scene" is basically a group of people with similar interests who gather together to socialize and sometimes form bands or groups related to their interests. The most common example of such a "scene" is the goth scene. You'll also find music scenes, sports scenes, etc.
In the past, I was a part of a music scene based off of my primary interest: industrial music. As you can see in my bio, I listen to quite a lot of that genre of music, and I'm pretty sure I am well known within it's "scene". However, I have recently moved away from that type of music (though I still listen to some), and I have become more interested in other genres of music. That being said, I feel like I need to be in a new "scene".
The question now is which one?
So far, I have narrowed it down to the two below:
1.) Alternative rock
2.) Emo
My main reason for picking these two is that they are both genres that I currently listen to and enjoy, and I want to be around others who share similar musical tastes as me.
I know very little about emo, though. All I know is that it is usually slow-tempo rock with depressing lyrics. Not much else. So, if I chose this option, I would probably just listen to Fall Out Boy or Panic! At The Disco until I figure out what other bands I can like.
Alternative rock is something I know more about. It includes bands such as My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Jimmy Eat World, and many others.
Now, if you ask me which scene I should join, my answer would be the alternative rock scene. However, I don't want to just sit back and let fate decide, so I'm asking the opinion of my fellow OTers.
Which scene do you think I should join? Do you have any other suggestions?

You're one of the few people here who has said emo. I'll look into it a bit more and see how much I enjoy it. Thanks!

If you like My Chemical Romance then go for Emo.
You will get bored with Alternative Rock pretty soon because it's not that interesting.

I've decided that I'm going to go with alternative rock. So, now I just need to pick out some bands to listen to.
Any suggestions?

You should check out All Time Low if you haven't heard them before.
They have a really cool sound.
