Both have layers.
Both grow underground.
And both can make you cry.
But there are differences.
Potatoes taste great mashed with butter, but onions do not taste great when mashed into butter.
Potatoes can be fried, or baked, but onions are only good fried.
Potatoes can be made into potato chips, but onions cannot.
And potatoes can make you fart, but onions can't.
