You both survive. But you never made it onto the bus. So you have to walk to the city. Along the way, you have to avoid zombies and other crazies. Eventually, you make it to the city. You find a bunch of survivors and take refuge in a church. You end up living the rest of your life in the church until you die. You see a bunch of people become sick. The sickness turns out to be the zombie infection. You didn't get sick. You also saw all these people turn into zombies. After all this happened, you finally go down. You were bitten on the neck by a zombie, and died.
You failed to live.
