it sounds like an oboe but deeper and less melodic
it has a large double reed similar to a clarinet
it has a more restricted range than some other double reeds like the bass clarinet
the notes played are slightly off pitch compared to other instruments (which is why i love them)

it depends on how you define "favorite"
if you mean "most fun to play" then i'm pretty sure it would be the piano or guitar
if you mean "most enjoyable to listen to" i would say either saxophone, tuba, or trumpet (in that order)

yeah the flute definitely has an appealing sound
and there are some good tricks for making it sound more interesting than it actually is
for example
you can play notes on a flute and make them sound higher by blowing harder
or play notes lower by blowing softer
also if you blow in one direction instead of the other then certain notes will sound sharper
these tricks can help with improvising when playing songs

Yeah I know. My mom plays the flute in band in school, I've seen her practice quite a bit. That's probably why I think she sounds so nice.
