ESPN isn't the news.
They are two completely different things.
The news is where they talk about other people, like the people in your neighborhood and people who are famous or something.
ESPN is for Sports related stuff.

ESPN is a sport.
The news is not.
I watched ESPN once and only once and it was very boring.
But I haven't seen the news because whenever I turn on the TV it says something like "Breaking News: Person A is going to get Person B"
I watch The Weather Channel if I want to watch the news, but even then it isn't really news.
It is weather. It shows me which days have rain and sun and how cold it is.

That is exactly why sports channels were created. They wanted to have all of the sports news in one place, instead of having everyone watch the news every morning to find out what is going on in the sports world.

They didn't even make sports news until after the 1800s and I don't think they even existed until 1860 or something.

No.
It was just that they didn't exist yet.
But eventually people thought about it and sports news appeared on television like everything else does.
Sports wasn't even a thing until after 1900.
They only started playing sports around then.
