The real truth is that the "Lenny face" was originally just an error when copying the text. The actual name of it is "lel face" which is a combination of le and lol.

The "Lenny face" came from the Lenny character on South Park. You can find him in the episode called "Something Wall-Mart This Way Comes." He's a blue character with his mouth wide open and his eyes closed.
