you dont need to be mean to him or anything but you can just say something like "if we are still friends, there must be some reason why you want us to stop being friends. please tell me" (or something close)
if he doesnt give any real reasons, he may want to keep you as his friend because hes insecure about losing you.
also if its an online game that you guys play together (maybe roblox?) maybe he gets lonely sometimes.
so you might try asking if hes having trouble finding people or stuff like that too. also ask if you can help.
idk i havent been on roblox much recently lol
