A person that was an assassin for 20 years or someone who was trained with the sword for 10 days?

Well, if the latter had enough training and experience to be able to fend off an assassin, then they'd have a chance. But if it's just ten days worth of practice... then I'd go with the Assassin, every time.

It's been 5 minutes and no one has posted. Good thing I'm not waiting for a good answer. ;)

It really depends on how you define "trained". If we're talking about someone who just picked up a sword for the first time, then they wouldn't stand a chance against someone who was properly trained to use one.

Well, in this case the person was trained by an expert. The guy that trained him is also a retired assassin (but he doesn't know any other moves besides the ones he taught his pupil). And the person that was trained only knew basic sword fighting.

Still, it takes more than just training. It takes skill as well, and even after years of practice, that can be hard to develop.

But if the person that was trained by the assassin knew more than basic sword fighting, would he have a better chance?

I guess I will have to wait until I finish my book to know who wins.

If you were writing the book, then yeah - but as a reader, I'm not entirely convinced. Unless the assassin was extremely skilled, or if there was something about his style that was particularly difficult to counter...

Well, the assassin has been killing people for 20 years so I'm guessing that he is very skilled.

Still, it's possible for him to be skilled while still having some weaknesses that might be exposed by an experienced swordsman. If we're talking about someone who's just starting out, then they'd stand no chance. But even an experienced fighter could still fall prey to an assassin.

So the swordsman has a small chance to win?

It depends on the swordsman and his ability to fight, but in general, if I had to choose one, I'd go with the Assassin every time.
