If he says he's planning on killing himself over the internet, it's best if someone gets him out of his home, or just contact the police. He may not be serious about it or might not be thinking straight so I wouldn't let this go as a joke, I actually see people post that everyday here in OT.

No he doesn't mean it seriously, he just wants to feel loved. But you're right, we shouldn't take this as a joke. He should just go somewhere else, and tell someone that cares about him.

There are always people who like joking with the seriousness of situations because they don't realize what they're doing. It's something I do all the time so I know what I'm talking about. I was trying to help him by giving him an idea of what to think, which is how you find the answer for that question.
I would say to him that "life is pretty much meaningless," but that would only make him more depressed, which I don't want to happen.

I agree but I can understand why people joke about it. The fact that they don't understand that they're doing it is what makes it even worse. It's one of those situations where you can't joke about anything so it doesn't bother me really. I just post a couple of things to make someone feel better when I see them in need. If they're not serious, they won't mind, and if they are serious, they might get a smile on their face because of my posts.
