you work on it by solving problems, like an equation or a word problem. Also doing drills is good.

hmmm... well when I was in 4th grade I had a really hard time with math because I was so used to working at my own pace. It really helped me to start getting ahead in math though.

hmm well i have to use the math curriculum the school has made for us so they dont want people to get ahead unless its a very small number of kids

I've heard the curriculum we use is horrible and makes it impossible to learn anything. I also hate that they don't allow students to move around the class; I have no idea why they do that

if your teacher won't help you out, find someone else who can teach you. Just ask a family member or something. Or if there's another kid who knows how to do it, maybe you can pair up and help each other?

so i have an idea that would help me with math in general
but is this what im supposed to do?
1) Ask the teacher to show me a couple examples
2) Try to solve them on my own
3) Ask him if i did it right
4) If he says no i try again and see how i did
is this how it works?

I've heard a lot of different methods that work well.
I think I learned best by doing word problems. And I'm not sure about your third step, but yeah, if they're wrong just ask them why and then figure out a different way to do it.
