Mac OSX sucks for gaming.
You should get a decent gaming desktop PC if you want to play games other than Minecraft.

My parents bought me a 6 year old Alienware gaming laptop, with 3rd gen Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM, Radeon HD 6970M, and 1TB HDD last Christmas.
It's fast as hell, but I don't use it much.

That sounds good enough for running Skyrim on low graphics.

I got a friend who uses a Windows XP desktop PC with 2GB RAM and Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 (3GHz) processor, for gaming.
He can play Skyrim on high graphics settings without problems.

It's important because not all games are optimized for specific types of processors.
You have some other things to consider too, like the motherboard, video card, etcetera.

What exactly are you wanting to use your PC for? Gaming? Coding? Watching videos? Browsing the web?
Or maybe you're using it for several purposes.

@Dz
I would say watching videos was the only thing I ever used my computer for.
But that doesn't mean I don't do other things when I'm on it. I use Chrome to watch YouTube and Steam to play games, and I use it to look for other stuff on the Internet as well.
