we're studying ww2 and we're gonna write an essay on what was going wrong in Europe before the war. and i'm kinda stumped.
i mean, if you were a german citizen in 1938-1939 you would see that things were going well. i mean, they were winning wars, they had a booming economy and most people were happy and not starving (except jews).
so how do you explain to a teacher why germany was about to lose a world war?

The Germans didn't know Hitler was preparing for war. They just thought he was being crazy and he should stop trying to invade foreign countries.

Also, don't forget France invaded Poland, which is what started the whole war.

it was like "hey! france declared war on poland! let's go help them!"

They did it because of the Treaty of Versailles.
