Why do people say "I have nothing against them"?
If you don't have anything against someone, then why are you even mentioning it?

They're just trying to make sure they don't offend anyone.

What if a person doesn't want to be associated with the things they have done?
Then that person is saying he or she doesn't care about the thing that you're talking about. They don't care enough to get offended by it.
