This is the story of the worst day in my life.
I was playing roblox, when all of a sudden, my computer froze. I waited for a few seconds, then decided to reboot it. When it came up, it had a message saying that I needed to remove some viruses or malware.
So I did. But my anti-virus software said I already had the latest version.
I tried again but nothing worked.
The next day I woke up and the same thing happened. This time I used an online virus remover.
After about an hour of scanning, it found something called "rootkit."
I asked what a rootkit was and the guy told me it was a type of malware that hides itself from the operating system so you can't delete it.
He told me that he would remove it for free but I would have to pay him $50 if I wanted any kind of tech support afterwards. He said his email address was "[REDACTED]".
I emailed him and he sent back a confirmation code which he said I should use when calling him for help later. After I paid the money, he removed the rootkit and everything worked fine after that.
But one day, it happened again. This time I couldn't even restart my computer.
I called the number and the guy on the other end said he didn't know anything about my problem. He just gave me his best guess and said it could be a hardware problem or maybe it was just a glitch.
He told me to try reinstalling Windows but that might not work because of the rootkit. So I did anyway, just to see what would happen. When Windows finished installing, my computer started working normally again.
A few months later, it happened again. This time I decided not to call the guy because I knew he wouldn't help me and he would probably try to sell me some junk.
So I tried to fix the problem myself by using Google Search to find a solution. After spending about an hour looking for answers online, I found one article that showed how to remove malware manually.
The instructions looked pretty complicated so I didn't want to try it without reading up more first. But then I realized something weird - there were no ads on the page! That's usually how Google makes money off its search engine, but this article didn't have any ads at all!
I clicked on one of the links at the bottom of the screen and it took me to another website. When I got there, I saw something very strange...
There was a picture of a monkey wearing glasses and pointing at something on the screen. It wasn't even a real picture; it was just a cartoon drawing!
Then I noticed that the caption said "Look What I Did!"
I didn't understand why anyone would want to put a funny cartoon image next to their own photo, especially if it was supposed to be serious. But I thought maybe it was meant as a joke or something.
So I scrolled down and started reading the comments. Most of them were just people saying things like "LOL" or "xD". Then I saw one comment that really caught my attention. It was from someone called "DumbUser."
His post read: "This guy is a complete idiot. He thinks he knows everything but actually he doesn't know anything. He is so stupid that even his dog can do better than him."
I had never seen such hateful language before in my life! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Was this guy seriously insulting everyone who posted a comment? And did he honestly think his opinion mattered?
I felt bad for him because I knew exactly how much pain he must be feeling right now. After all, we've all been there before. We've all felt hurt by other people's words at some point in our lives.
But I also realized that nobody could ever know what another person is going through unless they've experienced it themselves. So even though I didn't agree with what this guy was doing, I still tried to understand where he was coming from.
Because I wanted to find out why he was acting this way. And maybe if I understood why he was doing these things, then I might be able to help him change for the better.
