The meaning of life is not to be confused with questions about the purpose of life or the reason for life. It can also refer to one's personal existence.
It is a fundamental concept in many religions, but it remains a major question for believers and nonbelievers alike. There have been many attempts to define the meaning of life, though there is no consensus on what this should be.
As a question, "What is the meaning of life?" can be asked without an expectation that it will be answered; some people are happy not knowing its answer. The philosopher Albert Camus argued that such questions are meaningless.
Some believe that it cannot be answered due to the complexity of the question itself or because the answer may be so simple as to go unappreciated.
The answer may also be thought of as unknowable because the person asking believes that he himself is too insignificant to understand the workings of the universe.
