3D is really hard to animate. Its not like a regular animation where you can just make a stick figure move, then add clothing, or you can just use the skeleton of the character you're making, then use that in your game. No, it takes an absolute genius to make even the slightest movement with a 3D model, and believe me, I know.
I'm sure many of you who have played games before have played some crappy games. I mean, come on, there are a lot of terrible games out there. Some of them are even made by top-notch companies (such as Rockstar Games) who make great games. So how do these games end up so crappy? Well, 3D is the biggest problem. With a 2D game, it is relatively easy to script in something, such as a car, but not in a 3D game. Now, imagine scripting in a car for a 3D game... You have to think of every single little detail about that car, such as what happens when it's wheels collide into another car, or if someone falls on it. It's hard because there are so many parts to a 3D object, compared to a 2D object. A 2D object has very few parts, and most of those parts can be ignored since they don't matter (unless you want it to look like it has more detail), but with a 3D object, everything matters. That's why most games suck.

I think you're right. I always thought the models were made by other people.

@Banned
Yeah, well, they probably are, but they can't make them move around without breaking something.

That's why I hate the Sims. The Sims 2 was fine, but now Sims 3 is going to be crappy.

@Banned
I heard about that. They're gonna make the 2D graphics 3D? Well, not really 3D, they're just gonna have a lot more detail and such.

Yeah, but it's gonna be on PS3, which means they can't make it crappy, so it should be good.

They can make it crappy, but they have to make it on the PS3.

I guess so. But that's not my point; I'm talking about the fact that the Sims will suck, and why it'll suck.

Well, yes, but I mean, this time, they'll suck even more because it's 3D. It's hard to script in a car with 2D graphics (you have to think about things like wheels colliding and stuff), but 3D is even harder.
