You're thinking of Sen no Kiseki III, which I have yet to play. The one I played is Sen no Kiseki II (or Eiyuu Densetsu Sora no Kiseki). It's a story about a group of heroes and the main character is an adventurer who finds out that he has a powerful ability and wants to use it for good, but is forbidden to do so by his guild.
