I was on a minecraft server, and we were playing survival. (If you have no idea what that is, it's a game mode in minecraft where there are no shops or tools. You start off with only a stone pickaxe.)
We had built a base and we were collecting resources to make ourselves strong armor and weapons.
Well, one of my friends had found a zombie spawn point (Zombie spawners are blocks in which zombies can appear out of the ground.)
We had collected several iron ingots (Iron ingots are what you get when you smelt iron ore in a furnace), and my friend offered me some of his if I could kill all the zombies that spawned out of that zombie spawner.
So I went down in the zombie spawn chamber and killed all the zombies with my stone pick axe. (Stone picks are weak but can still kill zombies.)
And then... I realized that I got 10 experience points for killing 8 zombies. And I kept getting more experience points for every zombie I killed until I reached level 3.
Now, for those of you who don't know Minecraft, here's a short description about how experience levels work:
Experience is given to a player depending on how much damage they deal to mobs and how much they take from mobs.
You get 1 experience point for every 4 points of damage you deal to a mob, or every 4 points of damage a mob deals to you.
When you reach your next level, you gain +2 health (max health is 20) and +2 attack damage. (This goes up to level 30)
I'm still not sure why this happened.
It must have been because I killed zombies with a weapon that could deal a lot of damage.

(If you still don't get what i'm talking about, I'll describe it more.)
So basically, when I was playing minecraft, I went down into a cave where a bunch of zombies were, and I killed them all with my stone pickaxe. For every zombie I killed, I got an experience point, which eventually led me to level 3.
