I'd say about a million years. That's when the sun starts dying.

i would say we have a little less than 200 years before humanity is extinct

"i would say we have a little less than 200 years before humanity is extinct" There's no way we'd be able to survive that long. I'm talking about all life on Earth, not just humans.

Until 10 billion years. (Earth is already 4.6 billion years old.)

"There's no way we'd be able to survive that long. I'm talking about all life on Earth, not just humans." that's what i mean, though, as in our species extinction. we're pretty much guaranteed to go extinct within the next 100-200 years because we're doing everything in our power to destroy ourselves all life on earth will probably still exist for quite a while longer

"But not by much longer, either. We've already started causing serious damage to our planet." i think it'll take a good few thousand more years until life is completely eradicated on this planet but we'll get there eventually

"I think it'll take a good few thousand more years until life is completely eradicated on this planet but we'll get there eventually." Yeah. But only because of a natural cause that can't be changed.

"Yeah. But only because of a natural cause that can't be changed." like i said though, we're doing everything in our power to make this happen faster

I believe the next big extinction event will be the Andromeda Galaxy colliding with the Milky Way, which I believe will occur within 4 billion years (according to Wikipedia).

We can create a type of weapon that can destroy an entire solar system or galaxy?

I'm pretty sure if you put your mind to it, you could build one. You could destroy the sun itself, if you wanted to. We have the technology right now to do so.

We'd need something with a large amount of energy output, and that's not something we currently have. I guess we could just use a bunch of atomic bombs, but I don't think they would be enough.

"Yeah but destroying the sun is impossible." yeah but destroying the sun would be very easy we just need to hit it with an asteroid that's big enough to knock out its fusion core

" Yeah but destroying the sun would be very easy. We just need to hit it with an asteroid that's big enough to knock out its fusion core." No, because the gravity of the Sun is so strong that no asteroid could ever get close enough.

"No, because the gravity of the Sun is so strong that no asteroid could ever get close enough." so you're saying that even if we shot the sun with a laser powerful enough to vaporize the entirety of the earth, it wouldn't do anything?

There are ways to do it, I guess. We could put all of our energy into a single spacecraft and fire it at the sun. That should do the job, if it hits the right spot.

"There are ways to do it, I guess. We could put all of our energy into a single spacecraft and fire it at the sun. That should do the job, if it hits the right spot." that doesn't seem too practical, though, considering the massive amount of energy required to make a spaceship big enough to hit the sun

"So you're saying that even if we shot the sun with a laser powerful enough to vaporize the entirety of the earth, it wouldn't do anything?" Of course not. It's much more dense than Earth. That's what makes its gravity so strong. "so you're saying that even if we shot the sun with a laser powerful enough to vaporize the entirety of the earth, it wouldn't do anything?" No, because the gravity of the Sun is so strong that no asteroid could ever get close enough."

Yeah, I guess that is true. It would take an impossible amount of energy for us to do anything like that.
