Well, there are two ways to know this:
You can buy it and play it for a while.
OR you could do what I did, watch tons of minecraft videos on YouTube, and see if you like the videos.
I'm pretty sure Minecraft is boring as hell, but I would only find this out by buying it.

I don't have that problem with other games. It's usually just "eh, not my thing", rather than "THIS IS TERRIBLE" which is my the problem with minecraft.

That's because Minecraft is an entirely different game compared to others. They're all unique in their own way, so when you try one, it might be bad, or good.
Minecraft is still a unique game though

i don't know if that'd be possible since i'd need a steam account and i'm pretty sure there's a small window of time in which you can get refunds on steam
