Well...I don't know if I can say that I am capable of making my own decisions, but I do know for certain that the current education system is not teaching kids how to make these decisions for themselves, and I fear that I will be one of those people who just go with the flow.

It's possible for someone to brainwash you if you are in their power, like if they were holding a gun on you or something, but they'd have to control everything around you for you to act against your own beliefs.
This is why some cults will require that you turn in any devices capable of communicating with other people as well as your money and valuables.

I would recommend going into some sort of trade school rather than a traditional college.
If you are skilled at anything, try to use it to make money and enjoy life as much as possible.
