The funny thing is that some Americans think that using the word 'your' instead of 'you're' is a sign of intelligence. It isn't.
It's just a mistake that some people make all the time. The only reason you made the mistake is because you didn't know any better.

It's not hard to understand. If you're talking about the word 'your', just think about your, like when you would say something like "your pants", or "your shoes".
When you're using the word 'you're' it's a contraction for 'you are'. So it's like if you were saying 'you are tired' or 'you are hungry'.
