Why do people keep on talking about "2012"
Is there really a Mayan calendar or something?

The mayans were a group of people that were in South America around like 200 BC. They made the most advanced society in their time by far and created many things that we take for granted today like accurate calendars. Many scientists believe they were aliens because of how advanced they were for the time. They mysteriously disappeared around 900 AD but nobody knows why or where they went

Not really. All we know is that they left. I can't say if it was forced or voluntary but there is still some debate over it

I guess you could say that, but again, nobody really knows why they left. There are a few theories that claim they either abandoned their society or were killed off by another group of people but they have never been proven. The most commonly believed theory is that they moved on to another place after leaving their civilization in ruins
