one time i let my friend use my ipod for a day or so and he gave me his ipod as a favor back because he needed mine
the other time my friend lent me her phone and she wanted her phone back again as a favor

well, they wouldn't be doing it out of the blue like that's how they'll get their own favors in return
i mean unless they're doing it out of pure kindness (or are trying to suck up to you, which would be the only reason i wouldn't be able to understand why someone would do that)
