Linux is a free open source operating system that can be used on desktop computers. It’s also available for laptops, tablets, mobile phones and even embedded systems such as smart TVs.
There are many advantages of using Linux over other operating systems like Windows or Mac OS X.
One of the biggest advantages is its price – Linux is completely free! Other operating systems cost money before you can start using them which means you have less choice when picking one.
Another big advantage is its flexibility – there are thousands of different distributions (versions) of Linux which offer different features and functionality. This allows users to choose exactly what they want from their operating system rather than having something forced upon them by default.

The only downside I see with Linux is that it isn't as user-friendly as Windows or Mac OS X, but this can easily be fixed with some practice and familiarity.
