I tried playing it on my iPad.
It was bad. I can't imagine how bad it could be if you tried playing it with a game pad.

The WiiU controller has a d-pad which makes it an actual controller as well.

yeah i've played minecraft on the wii u but that doesn't make any difference since it's just a touch screen

It does though. The wii u game pad is similar to the ps vita which has a joystick that's sensitive enough to replace a mouse and has buttons that can be used to simulate key bindings for a keyboard.
