I can't seem to stop him. He'll be walking along then all of a sudden he stops, leans his head towards my back and just sniffs it for a second or two.
Is this normal?

It's an animal thing, and I don't know the exact reason.
It might be because dogs usually like to eat what you're eating, so maybe it's that.
