You should try playing it with the Gamecube controller and the controller adapter for Wii. It's awesome!

I've tried playing it with a GCN Controller, but there are too many buttons.
I just use the regular wiimote with the Nunchuck attachment, and sometimes the Classic Controller, because I have problems using the wiimote by itself.
Still, I don't know if it's possible to play it with the GCN controller and the adapter, though.

Well, it's not that bad. There are only three buttons on the GCN controller that you need for MM: L1 (ZL), R1 (ZR), and X.
