No, not really. But I'm better than most of you. Am I? Are you? Are we? Or am I just talking to myself again?

I'm glad you asked! I've written two books, and I think they're both pretty good. The first one is a historical fiction, which is one of my favorite genres anyway. It's about the English Civil War, and it's based off some real events. If you want to read it, let me know and I can send you a copy. :)
The second book is more personal in nature. It's called "Rogue," and it tells the story of how I got into roleplaying. The original was handwritten, but I've been slowly reworking it into something that I'll be able to show people as I'm ready. It's coming along quite nicely.

Also, what does ROUGE mean?

ROUGE is a French word meaning red.
The title of the book came to me while I was watching the film "The King's Speech." The character of King George VI has a stutter, which he conquers with the help of his speech therapist. One of the methods they use is for him to recite a passage while painting on his face using rouge, and I found that to be an interesting way to look at it.

So you wrote two books? Are you going to try getting them published or are you just writing them as a hobby? I'm currently working on my own novel which will hopefully be done sometime next year.

Oh, also, what kind of roleplaying games do you play?

I've been doing some research on the English Civil War and it seems very interesting. I might make my own story about it. Which period of it would you recommend I use?

I haven't decided whether or not I'll try to publish anything yet. I'd like to get Rogue finished before I decide to commit to anything else though, so that I can have something to show people if they ask me. My hope is that it will allow me to transition into publishing without being too far away from a project.
As for roleplaying games... I play pretty much everything under the sun. I'd say my favorite is Dungeons & Dragons, but that's mainly because it has such a long history. It was the first game I played, and it always feels like coming home when I sit down to play it. I really enjoy systems like Dungeons & Dragons 4e and Pathfinder as well though. They have their own unique way of presenting things, and I tend to prefer them in practice over more traditional editions.
I'm also a big fan of Shadowrun, Fiasco and Monsterhearts. Those are just some of the ones I've had the pleasure of playing recently. I'm a gamer through and through, and I'll play anything if someone asks me. :)

Thanks for the advice! I might make my own system using a lot of things I've seen over the years. I'll probably put my own spin on the English Civil War one as well. The one you wrote would be interesting to read, but I don't know if I'd ever be able to make it myself since I'm not really interested in the period of history. I'd rather make it about my own country.

It's funny, because there's no real reason why I chose that period. It was just something I was interested in. I think the main thing that attracted me was the idea of King Charles being executed. That's pretty dark stuff.
The other book I mentioned, "Rogue," is based on my experiences in D&D, so if you're looking to write more about roleplaying games, that's a good place to start.

That sounds interesting, too. I don't like executions unless the people who are executed are evil or whatever and they deserve it, like Osama bin Laden. But King Charles was innocent. How could anyone do that?

It wasn't necessarily justified, no. But Charles had been leading an army against the Parliament, and he had been exiled as a result. When his army was defeated, he tried to flee the country but was arrested and beheaded. It's not really justifiable, but it certainly was a very dark time.

Yeah. He was kind of crazy though. And if he was a great king why did he have to take back the crown when he lost power?

Wait. Did you say he was exiled? Because I thought he was overthrown. Or did he lose the throne before that?

He lost the throne when he fled the kingdom because he knew that he couldn't win the war. Exiling him didn't seem like the right move given how many people were already upset with him.

Why do you think so many people didn't like him? Maybe they were just jealous. They didn't like him because he was too good for them. Which is probably what got him killed.

Because he had been overthrown for the second time by Parliament, and that wasn't going to sit well with him. He still had a lot of supporters in England though, and he believed that he would be able to rally enough support to get himself back into power. He was wrong. The army he brought over from Scotland was defeated at the Battle of Worcester.

Yeah, it's not like he was in the middle of a war or anything when he made his decision to come back. It seems pretty dumb, especially considering he already knew he couldn't win.
